Weekend Ramble

Eye candy for sale Chrysanthemums and crown of thorns.

Dianthus and Gallardias also on sale

An early morning visitor that freaked me out. A giant heron it looks like appeared and has been turning up for the past two mornings looking for some food. It has a wingspan of 6 ft or so and is about 3 ft tall.

I had another garden Ramble over the weekend and I would like to thank all those of you who attended. I met a follower of my blog who lives in the UK and Barbados. She was excited to attend because most of the time she can only read about the event. Thank you Anita it was such a pleasure meeting you.  Linda Lewis and her group of friends came by and it was a joy to see a FB friend in person. I was told by many who attended, that this should be a regular event during the year and I plan to do that next year.

Garden Blogger's Bloom Day October 2015

Sesbania grandiflora aka Parrot's beak in bloom. These are from seeds sown in April and planted out in July. They are between 15 -20 ft tall.

 Back garden

I decided to do a pallet make over and created a herb planter stand.
New grill on the block. I saved this grill from the land fill and it is amazing what a new paint job can do. Norman do you recognize your former friend?
A friend and I took a stall at a local festival. Sales were a bit slow that day.

September remember

Fish cakes a local delicacy is being fried  by Cynthia a member of the St. Lucy Parish Independence committee

It was lovely seeing my hospital roommate Linda her husband Russell and his aunt June.

Patrons sampling some of the local fare.
Some scenes from the Garden Ramble that was held 2 weeks ago. The response was good and many will be looking forward another one next year.
In attendance were many members of the St. Lucy Parish Independence Committee who helped coordinate the affair. Their mission is to promote community Tourism.
The St. Lucy Parish Independence committee is a community based organization with a mandate to ensure that Barbados' Independence is celebrated in communities across the parish, not just in November but all year round where Independence is not a one day affair but a state of mind. Our independence day is on November 30th and my island will be celebrating 49 years of Independence from England.
Special thanks to Janice Springer program Coordinator, Pedro Cumberbatch , Julie Burnett, her mom Cynthia Burnett who manned the fish cake booth and the many members who assisted.
Also special thank you to my daughter Lauren and her husband Marlon and my gardener Rawdon who worked his butt off to get the garden in shape.
