another bloomin' Friday nursery visit

Ornamental red banana

This morning I visited another favorite nursery located in the parish of St. Joseph. The owner Anthony, is an eccentric local who is a pioneer of the nursery business on the island. He has a very wide variety and is very pricey. The location is cooler so everything there thrives. His gingers are to die for, and seem to thrive without any effort. Anthony has created a beautiful garden sanctuary in a gully next to the nursery which is now open to the public for a fee. For more blooming Friday blooms why not take a skip over to Katarina at roses and stuff.

  1. Helen, this ornamental banana looks very different from the usual ones. I see a shrimp plant here too. What is the stone statue among the lovely orchids? This place looks neat and tidy.

  2. The ornamental banana looks like a heliconium- maybe they are the same family. I liked the orchid too.

  3. Hi and thank you for showing these beautiful plants. The third picture from the bottom is my favorite - I like everything there - plants, planters, a stone wall... A piece of paradise.

  5. Hello,

I love reading your blog because we can grow many of the same plants here in Arizona. Also, because you feature plants that I have never seen before and they are so interesting.

Ornamental Banana - I had no idea that they existed, but they are beautiful.

  6. They have wonderful orchids too. Nice cosy nursery. The nuseries here have commercial look. Are there many nurseries like this one?

    Enjoy your weekend!

  7. Hi Helen, you must have thoroughly enjoyed this visit... the nursery looks more like a beautifully decorated personal space than a commercial one. Here too the nurseries have a boring look with rows and rows of plants arranged in groups. The Orchids and gingers are to die for!!

  8. Autumn Belle.....Lotus leaf.......
the ornamental banana is a musa okanaiwa banana. The stone statue looks like a religious one but I didn't ask. The nursery is on an old sugar plantation.

Tatyana....it is really the most beautiful nursery on the island.

Scott and Liz....that ginger is mind blowing and I can't wait to find a good spot to place mine.

AZplantlady......there are quite a few ornamental bananas available. I grow the pink but it needs lots of fertilizer and water.

Stephanie .....not many nurseries look like this one. We have some commercial looking ones and some really bad looking ones too.

Green thumbs....I love going to visit Anthony . It is nicer to buy from or visit a place like this...it gives you ideas on how best they would look.

  13. What a lovely nurery! Its probably a good thing that Anthony doesn't have his nursery in Mumbai. I think I could easily bankrupt my family there! I love the way he has laid out the plants, everything planted to show it off to its best advantage.

  14. Sunita...Anthony has a very artistic eye. He can be a pain the rear at times however give jack his jacket he has the prettiest nursery on the island. I once went there and bought just over $500.00 USD in plants for myself and a client. My client told me that whatever wows me buy it for her. That was one garden makeover I really enjoyed doing.
