Beautiful and unspoilt in Bim*

The serene surroundings of Codrington College located in the parish of St. John, is said to be one of the oldest theological colleges in this part the Americas. Established in 1745 it was the gift to the people of Barbados from Christopher Codrington III (1668-1710),  after whom Codrington College is named. Many years ago while attending fashion school in Paris, I met a fellow student by the name of Camilla Codrington, who claimed to be one of the descendants of Christopher Codrington.

These limestone buildings (circa 1745) built by slave labour have witnessed many social changes over the years, Emancipation to Independence. If only walls could talk!
 Royal palms grace the landscape

Bath beach in St. John is a favorite holiday spot for locals. There are no Tourist developments here and we hope that it remains beautiful and unspoilt.

 My friend Rowena

My blogger friend Rowena from Australia who follows my blog came to visit my island home last month. Both countries share a common passion for Cricket our national game and each has had its share of great Cricketers. Barbados and the rest of the cricket playing islands  collectively play under the West Indies banner. We are the underdogs at the moment and there is a test match series being  played right now between Australia and the Windies (West Indies) in the islands. Rowena a plant and garden enthusiast is currently involved in a reforestation project at home in Australia. She and I spent many enjoyable days gallivanting around the island.
*Bim....nickname for Barbados

  1. Hi Helen, those are nice shots. And the beaches seem to be very inviting and serene. I am glad you find sometime to post again.
