hummers update

look at those babies, they have grown already. Notice the beak /bill and the downy covering on the skin
I am wondering if they are a boy and a girl?
the female antillean crested humming bird keeping her chicks warm. She actually allowed me to come quite close without leaving her nest.
the emerald throated humming bird just look at that colour! A pity I couldn't get a full shot!
The babies will be ready to fly off on or around August 17th meanwhile their mother is busy collecting nectar and white flies to feed them. The mother sits on them to keep them warm and today I got a good shot of her. I have also got some shots of the emerald throated humming bird with the sunlight on its iridescent body.

  3. Cottagesweet I agree they are precious.

Autumn Belle like you I once tried saving a black bird and the whole colony surrounded me overhead and kept a racket. Some were swooping down at me. I quickly got out of there.

  5. Sigh! I've been reading up on your hummingbird saga. You're so lucky to have these flying jewels in your garden. We dont have any hummingbirds in India... how unfair! The closest would be the sunbirds I think but I'd trade all the flowers of a season for a couple of hummingbirds flitting around in my garden.

  6. Lotus leaf you and Autumn Belle have described the humming bird perfectly....a piece of jewelry. Lotus leaf the babies are the antillean crested and not the emerald throated. I have yet to get a photo of the male antillean crested.

Sunita let us make a deal. I want some of your colourful birds and I'll give you some of my humming birds LOL. I am really amazed that there are no hummers in India...all of India? There is a place in Florida that is called Butterfly World that I have been to where they have introduced hummers from all over the world. It is a sight to behold!

  8. Thank you Kanak, the nest is about 4.5ft off the ground. She knows that I mean no harm so she doesn't make too much a fuss now. The male antillen is also gorgeous but I just can't seem to get a shot of him yet.
