The shade house  is now properly organized and ready to receive visitors.

Last Thursday the Rustic Bajan Garden had some visitors from Germany.  The visit was arranged by garden writer Heidi Howcroft who is no stranger to the island.  Here they are enjoying some iced tea and bajan fishcakes.

Refreshments are included in the entrance fee.  Bring your cameras and picnic mats. Sit under the trees and spend a few hours relaxing. Browse the plants for sale you never know what you will find. Mingle with fellow gardeners and visitors. Learn about growing dragon fruit and some fruits you have never seen growing here in Barbados.

Garden Ramble September 2015

Annual Garden Ramble and Plant Sale takes place on Saturday Sept 26th from 10am-4 pm. Parking available at the Rubis Gas Station. Benthams House is located between the Rubis Gas Station and the St. Lucy Post Office.

Sesbania grandiflora aka Parott's beak, humming bird tree,  is blooming at the Rustic Bajan Garden. This was grown from seed sown around the middle of April.  I misidentified this plant when I first posted about it in April.  The flowers and leaves are edible as well as the young seed pods. They are used for cooking in the Philippines and Thailand. It is a green manure used as a natural nitrogen fixing fertilizer and also used for fodder. There is a white version of this plant as well. These will be on sale on Saturday.
