Saturday blues

petrea volubilis next to the gazebo was ablaze with blooms last week

thunbergia erecta
after a heavy downpour

I came across this field of ruellias or mexican petunias,  when I was out searching for Monarch caterpillars.

Hello folks, I have been busy,  doing very little around the garden  because it has been too wet. I am not complaining, just a bit perturbed and  alarmed at  the rate the weeds and grass is growing. I did manage to cut some of the grass on Friday just before a heavy downpour.  I still have lots more to do hoping that there will be a dry day or two. Today, I had my garden helper open some dry coconuts (24 of them) for me. I am in the process of making some coconut oil.  I will keep you updated on the results. I had seen the instructions on the island farm blog, so I decided to give it a try. I have been meaning to try this for about 10 years or so. As they say, better late than never!

  1. I love all of your blues, in fact I have all three of them. I'm waiting for my petrea volubilis to bloom. It's only about 3' tall, growing in a pot with Philippine violet.

I wish we would get some rain. We've had very little and things are showing stress that don't get hand watered. It's too hot and steamy here to do much of anything outdoors. Depressing and I can hardly wait for cooler weather, but that won't be for another 2-3 months yet. :-(

Have a great week ~ FlowerLady

  2. Make coconut oil at home!! That will be an interesting event. Wish you all the success! Your petrias have a lovely dark colour. Mine are paler. The plant is still resting:(

  3. I've always been a fan of the thunbergia erecta, but the one plant I had was diseased to begin with. Its always nice to see it thriving in others gardens though!

  5. Boy, those blues are INTENSE! I love the Mexican ruellia. Used to grow it at my old house. It's such a great, tough plant. Good luck with your project!
